Our COVID-19 Policy

The UK is currently experiencing a public health emergency as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Duncan Turner Associates regards the safety of our staff, our clients, and the public at large as paramount.

In the event that it is necessary to have a face to face meeting, in order to minimise the of transmission we will take the following steps:

1. Before meetings

Before our meeting we will discuss and ask you about any measures you have taken to minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19. This will include whether you have recently travelled abroad, if you or someone in your household has recently come into contact with someone who has contacted the virus, whether you are displaying or have displayed symptoms of COVID-19, or whether you have or are self-isolating.

2. Wearing of masks etc.

Representatives will wear a facial visor/mask at all times during home visits.

3. Cleansing and Sanitation

Before entering your home, our staff will wipe clean with antibacterial gel/spray all surfaces of bags or materials including pens and electronic equipment. They will bring their own chair to help minimise contact with your home. Plastic disposable gloves can be worn during the visit if you prefer.

4. Social distancing

Only absolutely necessary participants should physically attend appointments and should maintain social distancing (2m, or 1m with risk mitigation where 2m is not viable).

5. Sharing of Equipment

Avoiding transmission during appointments, for example, from sharing pens, documents and other objects. If possible, clients are requested to use their own black ball point pen. Should they not be able to do so, then we will ensure there is a sanitised pen for their use.

6. Where meetings held

Meetings will be held outdoors or in well-ventilated rooms whenever possible.

To facilitate the above, we will communicate with households prior to arrival, and on arrival, to ensure the household understands the social distancing and hygiene measures that should be followed. Our confirmation letter of appointment will outline our policies.

Witnessing of Wills/Codicils

The Government is introducing legislation to allow people to use video-conferencing technology for the witnessing of Wills being made. The Wills Act 1837 stipulates that two witnesses must be present when the testator (person making the Will) signs the Will.

However, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, new rules have been implemented until January 2022.

i) Clear line of sight

The following scenarios would lead to a properly executed will during the pandemic within the existing law, provided that the will maker and the witnesses each have a clear line of sight:

● Witnessing through a window or open door of a house or a vehicle;

● Witnessing from a corridor or adjacent room into a room with the door open; or

● Witnessing outdoors from a short distance, for example in a garden.

ii) Signing and witnessing a Will by video-link

It is possible to witness a Will using a video-link. There is a process which must be followed. We can advise you about this and make sure the process is followed correctly thus ensuring your Will is executed properly.
